Brave

I got brave this week and took down the baby gates in our house (on a trial basis). For the last few months the boys have been quarantined to the living room when downstairs and their bedroom when upstairs. And I'm pleased to say that so far no one has fallen down the stairs or ingested anything they shouldn't. In fact, the boys have been absolutely ecstatic about their new found freedom. They love to follow me all over the house, empty the cupboard with the pots and pans, and just generally be adorable. I thought this picture just summed it up so well. Their perfect world: getting to play on the stairs with mom's kitchen utensils (never mind that they have their own, mine are clearly superior :))

We're loving our new "open floor plan." Hurray for growing up!

Don't underestimate the power of a good fence

Our little place has a fenced in back patio which I was excited about when we moved in. Sadly, shortly after Thanksgiving the fence literally fell in on itself making the space unusable. But the landlord assured me he'd fix it...

...which he just did this week. Yeah it has been a long time in coming, but I am just super excited about having some outdoor space that can contain our boys. They are such active and busy little guys now!

They christened the new fence,

And had a generally great time playing with sidewalk chalk and bubbles.

We've since gotten them a water table to splash in and they love it. I have all kinds of plans to turn this space into a great play place for the boys.

Here's to maintaining my sanity this summer!

Gavin

Nicknames: Gav-man, Gavers, Coop, Mr. Gavin, and Gavy.

LIKES:

This boy is passionate about being outside and equally dispassionate about going back inside after being outside.

He loves to snuggle and will often give me a hug after I change his diaper. Those are the best diaper changes ever.

Loves to say hi to everyone and blow them kisses when we leave. He pretty much made this little old lady's day at Sam's club when he blew her kisses goodbye.

Loves his binky which he affectionately calls 'me-me.' There is nothing funnier than hearing this sweet kid shout "ME-ME!" when I take his binky away. Seriously, it is so hilarious and darling.

His favorite toy has to be a toss up between phones and balls. He is obsessed with both.

His favorite place to sit is on the couch between me and Nathan. He thinks sitting between mom and dad is pretty much the best place to be.

He loves Elmo and Curious George and does a pretty awesome monkey impression.

DISLIKES:

He has a hard time with food textures. Not a ridiculously hard time, but there was a while there when he would chew a grape a couple of times and then spit it out and then ask for another and repeat the whole process. But he's getting better over time and now proudly eats entire grapes!

I believe I mentioned his dislike of coming inside the house after being outside. It's ridiculous really. This boy just can't get enough of being outside!

PERSONALITY:

He's a pretty chill little man, but he is also a free spirit. He'll just take off (outside on  a walk, in the grocery store, in the mall etc.) and doesn't look back.

He loves a wide open space to explore which probably explains his great love of the outdoors.

He is a very friendly little guy and loves to say "hi" to everyone!

While he is generally a happy kid he can throw a wicked temper tantrum. It is a sight to behold.

LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

can climb up on pretty much every chair in the house which also means he can get into all kinds of things now!

He loves to be read to and memorizes books pretty easily. We generally try to incorporate actions into our book reading and after reading the book once or twice he can usually do all the actions with you. His favorite books right now are Moo, Baa, La, La, La along with Goodnight Gorilla, and The Going to Bed Book.

RANDOM:

He recently learned to say peek-a-boo and loves to pop out from behind things and say "pee-uh-boo!" He also loves to give tickles.

And that is a little about our sweet little man Gavin! He keeps us laughing!

Hand-foot-mouth

Hand-foot-mouth has officially made a visit to our home. Ugh! The boys have been super miserable the last week and not sleeping at night. It's been rough. The boys are pretty much recovered at this point. But as soon as they were at the tail end of the disease I got it (just the cherry on top of a very stressful week). It is very uncommon for adults to get hand-foot-mouth I just happen to be one of unlucky exceptions.

The long and short of it is the post about Gavin is coming just as soon as we are all up and going again. Until then wish us luck!
