Twinjury

twin-ju-ry: noun, a twin related injury.

G-man is currently sporting his first ever twinjury (scratch on his nose).
[We think it makes him look a little like Gill off Finding Nemo.]

Turns out is pretty much impossible to teach 5 month olds to "be gentle" with each other. Though I make attempts anyways hoping it might catch on sooner rather than later. Really I think this was Andrew getting payback for another recent twin experience which involved Gavin breaking out of his swaddle in the middle of the night and twisting around so he was kicking Andrew in the head. Let me tell you Andrew was super mad (woke me up screaming, angry screaming, not pain screaming) and Gavin was pleased as could be that he managed to break loose. Looks like it's time for separate cribs!

You might have also noticed that Gavin is covered in rice cereal. We have fully embarked on the solid food adventure and this boy is all hands on. Getting the spoon to his mouth requires weaving your way through his grabby little hands, which are surprisingly strong and quick. Most spoonfuls we end up compromising:

One of the most darling things about putting them in their high chairs is watching them peer around the edges to watch each other.
[Forgive the shoddy camera work. I was hiding in the kitchen trying to capture the moment without them looking at me.]

And here are a couple cute pictures just for fun.

{Andrew: not to be out done by Gavin he follows up most bites with a solid raspberry or two, spraying bits of food everywhere :)}

Accepting the hard truth

Sometimes it is so funny to watch the boys explore their world.
Case and point:

{I can almost hear him chanting "must...taste...bottom...ring"}

Sorry bud, it just isn't going to happen.

He was none to happy when he finally accepted this for himself.

hahaha!
Though I must admit I admire his tenacity.

Such a funny little guy.

Me-Monster Mednesdays...er...Wednesdays

So I've been getting my craft on a little bit lately and it has been therapeutic. Unfortunately I went a little crazy and now have multiple projects going at the same time...hopefully someday I'll finish all of them.

I did happen to finish one of my many projects, mostly because there was a deadline involved! :) I made these for a friend's baby shower.

{confession: this was my first time attending a baby shower for someone my own age. I think the last baby shower I was at was for my sister ~10 years ago. I just always seemed to move at the right (er, wrong) time and missed them.}

{From left to right: crinkle taggie blanket toy, flannel/terry cloth bibs, flannel/terry cloth burp cloths}

This was my first time doing applique and it was fun! Plus I think it really adds some spice to the blah of the boring white. I'm making some bibs for the boys (with waterproof lining!) and I'm planning to apply my newly acquired (very basic!) applique-ing skills.

The crinkle taggies are so fun. I made one for the boys as well (and another is in the works) and they LOVE it. I feel so validated :) For the size taggie I made 3 ribbons per side was overkill, 2 worked much better.

My sister made a couple flannel/terry cloth burp cloths for me and I LOVE them. They are the best! I purchased a whole bunch of cloth diapers since that is what my family used back in the day. They are ok, but they pale in comparison to the terry/flannel ones. Especially if you have spitters...which I do....x2.

It felt really good to get back into the creative swing of things. I'm hoping to be able to do a little bit more once I stop pumping (almost down to two weeks!). I'm really looking forward to my mother's day present...a day long photography class. Yes! Hopefully it will improve my photography skills substantially.

This picture says it all

The following picture pretty much sums up the last couple of months:

{Medicine in the foreground (sick babies) with Nathan working on his dissertation in the background. Little G is helping him.}

The past couple months have been a little busy. Nathan has been working like crazy to finish his dissertation before summer. Couple that with SIX trips to the pediatrician in nine days. It has been...interesting.

But happily, the boys are feeling better and Nathan successfully defended his dissertation (woot, woot!). We are so proud of him!

While little G was "helping" Nathan with his dissertation we discovered a hidden talent

{Daddy's little pen holder}

It's nice to know that gap between his toes can be useful :)

Flying by

These two darlings turned 5 months on Tuesday.
[What?! Did the last 5 months whiz by for any one else or am I stuck in some kind of mommy time warp?]

{Gavin}

{Andrew}
They are getting incredibly fun. The giggles, the smiles, the growls and baby singing, the dimples (oh how I adore the dimples!), the stranger anxiety...oh wait that last one is not fun, incredibly not fun.

The big 5 months is also an exciting milestone because it means only one more month of pumping. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[can you tell I'm excited to be done? I mean every single one of those exclamation points]

Also, can I just say fast flow nipples are possibly the best baby invention  yet. Feeding the boys takes like 8 minutes now instead of 20-25. I'm enjoying it while it lasts since we'll be starting solids hard core in a few weeks (right now we only dabble, mostly for fun, but they seem to enjoy it) and it'll be back to 20+ min. feedings.

On a related note, the mommy hormones are in full swing these days. I don't know why I had it in my head that they would decrease over time--ha! I didn't get the least bit teary when the boys grew out of the newborn stage, but good grief if you could see me now. It seems I tear up at least twice a day about how big our guys are getting or how sweet they are or how sometimes my heart just feels like it is going to explode and shower the world with happiness. Sappy you say? Definitely. Sappy, but true. What can I say, I'm smitten.

Happy Mother's Day
