Our Southern Gentlemen

Porch sitting is an old school southern tradition. Meaning you mostly see the older generation doing it.
 But our boys are bringing it back.

They love to sit at the door and watch passersby. Especially, when the school bus drops off all the kids in our neighborhood. They may or may not try to get the kids attention by baby "shouting" at the kids as they walk by. Hmmm...we might need to set up some play dates for these two.

Luckily at this point they still hate the texture of our front mat so it is pretty effective at keeping them inside.

{Our little Southern gentlemen}

These two love the outdoors. Andrew cries when we open the door and don't give him a chance to get his outside fix.
It might be a very long winter...
But for now I love watching our little Southern gentlemen enjoy the outdoors.

Still a favorite

You might remember a while back I mentioned the boys favorite toy was the book case in our living room. It's 6 months later and it looks like not much has changed.

Well to be fair, I cleared out the lower three shelves to house their toys. But that was in anticipation of them unloading those lower shelves, which they do, on a daily basis.

Funny boys!

blast from the past and the big 9 months

Shortly after the boys were born Nathan's sister sent us some clothes that Nathan had worn as a little guy. Sweet right? We looked forward to taking pictures of our guys wearing them (the boys were too small at the time). We even double checked that the boys weren't too big for them before we moved. Well between getting settled and a recent growth spurt by the time I managed to take some pictures wouldn't you know it, I could barely squeeze them into the clothes.

Ah, well, we I had a fun interesting time taking some 9 month pictures of them wearing Nathan's clothes (have I mentioned the turbo speed crawling?)

{Gavin was feeling very pensive}

{Andrew was totally being a ham}

The next couple of photos just make me laugh. They are just so...real!

{ahhh, occasionaly there is peace in our little kingdom}

And some just for fun regular 'we're 9 months old' shots

{Andrew with some crazy hair}

{The one (kid you not) "good" shot of Gavin in  his regular clothes. Such a squirmer!}

These two little hams sure make me laugh!

{Side note: please ignore the black splotchy dot showing up in these pictures. I think I have something on my camera sensor and haven't quite figured out how to clean it myself. A better person would probably photoshop it out before posting said pictures. But 'a better person' probably doesn't have very busy (READ: into everything} twins. Or at least that's what I tell myself :)}

They make me laugh

A few days ago I put the boys outside to play on our patio. When I went to check on them a few minutes later this how I found them:

{I am Andrew hear me roar!}

This picture makes me laugh so hard! What a ham!

Labor Day 2011

Labor Day here in Kentucky ended up being very dark and rainy which scrapped our plans for mini golf with Nathan's sister and her family. So instead we spent the day inside letting the cousins get to know each other a little bit. Undeterred by the rain we followed up our afternoon indoors with a delicious barbecue. Nothing can keep us from our delicious Mexican grilled street corn. Yum! It was a mostly perfect way to say good bye to Summer and welcome in the beginnings of Fall.

{They boys with their Aunt Jaclyn and cousin Kaiya.}

The boys LOVE their Aunt Jaclyn (seriously I've never seen them warm up to someone so fast)!

{Handsome Gavin, looking so big!}

The perfect ending to our day was watching the boys crawl all around Nathan as he played the piano. Seriously so cute!

New found skills

About a week ago I put the boys down for their morning nap and headed downstairs for some much needed quiet time. While they usually conk off pretty quickly and quietly, on this particular morning I heard all kinds of giggling coming from their room. So of course I went to investigate (who can resist giggling babies!) and this is what I found:

Gavin had pulled himself up to standing in his crib for the first time ever. He was pleased as punch about it! And Andrew thought it was funny to see Gavin's head over the top bar instead of between the slats.

It was so dang cute!
Which made it really hard to be even the teensiest bit frustrated that they weren't falling asleep.

{Gavin pleased as can be with his newly discovered skills}

 I knew it would only be a matter of time before Andrew did it as well (today was the day!).

What I wasn't prepared for was that they would start pulling up on everything, scaling our stairs, and crawling at lightening speed all within the following week.

Any baby gate recommendations?
Seriously.

Badge of Honor

Someone recently advised us to take lots of pictures of the boys (done and done!) most especially when they do something crazy or get into mischief (definite room for improvement here). The plus side being it gives you some time to cool off and see the humor in it all and it is documented for posterity (and future dating partners).

Well as luck would have it that advice came just in time because we definitely had one of those moments the other night. Gavin was being super fussy and acting like he was hungry so we gave him a bottle. Still fussy/hungry acting. So we gave him another partial bottle. Still upset. So we put him in his high chair and gave him some solid food. Better, but still kind of fussy. We thought we'd just try to put him to bed instead. Nathan offered to take him up to bed, but I thought maybe he needed a hug from his mom (how naive!) so I insisted on doing it. I wiped him off, picked him up out of his high chair and nuzzled him on my shoulder at which point he promptly threw up everything we had just fed him. Threw it up all over me I should add. He was perfectly fine after that (poor kid!).

Nathan, thankfully, remembered the good advice we'd been given and snapped a few pictures:

{Looking a little ashamed. It's ok Bud!}

{Checking in with Mom}

{All smiles}

I consider the whole experience a badge of honor really.
A badge I intend to show to all his girlfriends someday...

How could I not?

Mother of the Year

Occasionally I find myself placating my children with things like TV and Cheetos in order to get dinner made, the kitchen cleaned, or some laundry folded. I usually feel some guilt over this, but it passes quickly when it results in cute pictures like these:

{Watching Tangled together}

{This one melts my heart! Love that little hand on his brother's back}
