America's Test Kitchen
We've recently gotten into America's Test Kitchen. Actually, my seven year old niece introduced us to ATK (as it's fondly known around our house). She's a huge fan and has picked up quite the knowledge base from watching (i.e. Mom is that an egg wash you're using? That looks like a non-stick skillet! etc.) The girl loves to cook which is so great and she shared her love of America's Test Kitchen with us when we were out for a visit. And well...she made believers out of the both of us! If you've never seen the show, check it out (its on PBS). It a really cool mixture of science and cooking, where they take a recipe and make it a bunch of different ways in order to figure out the best tasting (and usually simplest) way to make it. Nathan seriously loves this cookbook and has made a bunch of stuff out of it. The only thing that would improve ATK for me is if they added "healthiest" to their testing criteria. Some of the recipes I think you can gain weight just from reading the description :) They do have a light and healthy cookbook, which I'd love to try at some point. Oh and one of the best parts is they also test kitchenware/appliances and food! So if you've ever wondered which chocolate chips are best or how to pick a garlic press, check them out. Seriously great!
