My new favorite picture

{A on the left; G on the right}

This was the twins first time snuggling together since they were born. This is how they were in the womb: head to head though much more squished. Andrew kept smiling when we put them together like this. It was so sweet! Did I mention they have dimples? We catch a glimpse of them when they smile in their sleep and sometimes when they eat.

Did I mention we're absolutely smitten? :)

Modge Podge of Updates

First, I flew out to Indiana last weekend and successfully defended my thesis (on my birthday, no less). Hurray! It was a great birthday present to pass my defense. It was fun to be back in Indiana for a little visit, but I am glad we made it home in one piece instead of three. There is still some paperwork that I have to do for my thesis to be officially done, but the big stuff is done and I'm hopeful that it'll be all wrapped up by the time the twins decide to make an appearance.

Speaking of the twins, they are both still breech (little buggers!) so we are very likely headed for a c-section, though we keep praying they'll turn. Ultimately, all we are concerned with is getting them safely here so if that entails a c-section so be it! In fact, we scheduled a c-section for the morning of December 10th if they haven't already come by then. Less than 2 weeks until our little guys are here. Ah!

{36 weeks and 3 days pregnant}

{Do I look exhausted? Because I was sure feeling exhausted!}

This has really been a great pregnancy, especially for twins. Though something changed on my way to Indiana and I've entered the stage of pretty much constant discomfort, swollen feet, ankles and legs, an incredible number of trips to the bathroom, and fitful sleep. I think this is my body's way of saying--"it is about time to get these babies out!" Things are still going really well with the pregnancy though and the boys are looking healthy.

{Exhibits A and B: swollen feet and legs. This is the part of pregnancy I am most looking forward to not having to deal with anymore}

Just before I left I finished up the nursery decor and got it all hung with Nathan's help. Overall I'm pleased with how it turned out and it was fun to do.

{Animal silhouettes in frames: giraffe, elephant, and monkey. The elephant turned out the cutest. The picture doesn't really do them justice}

{Embroidery hoop art: Embroidery hoops mod podged with different paper}

{Curtains: made from a King size flat sheet. Got great curtain hanging advice here. We ended up hanging them much higher and wider than originally planned and it really makes the ceiling seem taller and the windows bigger}

While I was gone Nathan got the nursery all organized, washed all the baby clothes we got at our baby shower just before I left, installed the car seats and set up the swings. I'm so grateful he did, because I'm really feeling limited these days and wasn't sure how I was going to get it all done. This, however, is my favorite thing that he did while I was gone:

{We got a picture frame at our baby shower and he had the great idea of putting their first ultrasound pictures in it!}

{I really love how it turned out and these pictures hold a special memory for us since this is when we found out we were having twinsies}

On a somewhat random note when we got to South Carolina we decided to refinish a couple of pieces of furniture. One was this dresser for the twins room. I don't think I have a before picture anywhere, but it was really blonde wood with white handles. Nathan sanded it down and stained it a reddish brown color that matches the other nursery furniture we picked up for a steal.

The other piece we redid was our kitchen table.

Before:

{Random picture I found amongst our old pictures. Not the best, but you get the idea}

After:

{We restained the top a chocolate brown and reupholstered the chairs in blue}

Nathan did such a great job with all the physical labor while I looked on and acted as a consultant. I really love how both of the pieces turned out.

Thanksgiving 2010

Since I can't really be on my feet for long periods of time these days I left Thanksgiving entirely in Nathan's very capable hands. He did a great job, single handedly putting together the major parts of the meal. There are definitely perks to having a husband who can cook, like actually getting to have Thanksgiving dinner even though I'm 36 weeks pregnant with twins. Heaven knows if left to me it would have been frozen pizza or something like that! My brother and his family drove out from Tennessee. It was really fun to get to see them and to get to meet their baby Miles (great name right?!).

{Turkey, stuffing, potatoes and creamed spinach. Yum!}

{Group picture: Miles is screaming--he'd been such a happy baby the whole trip, right up until picture time--haha!}

South Carolina State Fair

About a month ago we went to the state fair with some friends. I'm not much of a fair person, but it was fun to get to walk around in the nice weather and enjoy a night out of the house.

The Krispy Kreme burger was all the rage this year. Basically, it's a hamburger wrapped in bacon sandwiched between two donuts. Ugh! My pregnant stomach couldn't handle even the thought of trying it.

We listened to a performing group called Vocal Trash. They were pretty fun to watch.

I had my first fried fair food--deep fried oreos. They were pretty good and it was fun to try something new.

Myrtle Beach: Sunrise

We had the chance a few weeks ago to go out to Myrtle Beach for the weekend to visit a friend and spend sometime at the beach.

We started off with a sunrise on the beach:

{People setting up their poles for fishing, right on the beach. So cool!}

{All bundled up! It was beautiful, but a little cold}

It was really beautiful to watch the sunrise on the ocean. We saw a school of fish jumping in the water and a couple birds diving for breakfast. It was so cool!

Myrtle Beach: Sand Castle

We were lucky enough to have one day beautiful enough to get in the water at the beach. It was wesome! Of course, building a sand castle was in order:

{It was from this picture that I figured out a s'more would be a great Halloween costume for me--haha!}

{Nathan helping with the moat}

{Yeah! We had to wait forever to get this picture of the moat filling up}

{Us with the final product. Not bad considering we had no tools other than what we could find on the beach}

Myrtle Beach: putt putt golf capital of the world

We took advantage of being in the putt putt golf capital of the world and played 36(!) holes of miniature golf at Bucaneer Bay.

{Nathan and Nicki looking happy to be playing mini-golf}

{Looking good!}

{Nice form!}

The course itself was not very exciting, though it had some nice water features. However, Nathan and Nicki took advantage of this cave to take some funny pictures.

There were also these random little stable looking things with nothing but rocks in them. They were everywhere!

{The twinsies first time mini golfing}

{Nicki looking beautiful}

{Nathan's "hole in one" dance}

{Nicki's "hole in one" dance}

{Katy's "hole in one dance"}

While the course itself was nothing fancy we had a blast traipsing around playing 36 holes of miniature golf. Especially when I hit my ball into the water several times and my husband had to rescue it for me--haha! Mini golf never was my strong suit :)

Prego update: baby {blankets and bump}

Time for a pregnancy update! We are quickly approaching D-day. I was informed by my doctor a few weeks ago that he doesn't like to let twins go past 37 weeks, which would be December 2nd for us.

What?!?!

With how well things have been going I was thinking the EARLIEST our twinsies would make an appearance is 37 weeks not the LATEST. Yikes! Breathe, Katy, breathe!

We may yet argue this point with our doctor a bit, especially if I don't go into labor on my own by that point and the twins continue to do well, but we'll see.

{32.5 weeks prego, take 1}

{32.5 weeks prego, take 2}

Our boys are looking great, weighing in at 4 lbs for Baby A and 3 lbs 10 ozs for Baby B at our 32 week ultrasound, which is a9% weight difference with no signs of twin to twin to transfusion which is really awesome. Go boys go!

I made a few receiving blankets for them this last weekend.

{Matching jungle print with different backings}

{Different prints (monkeys and turtles) with different backings, all cozy flannel}

I had all kinds of cute ideas for these little blankets, including maybe trying my hand at applique, but no dice. I've officially transitioned into "just get it done" mode! But I'm still pleased with how they turned out and they were easy peasy to make. Well minus the cutting out process. That is getting a little hard to do with my ever expanding belly :)

We are getting very excited (and very nervous!) for the arrival of our little guys!

Confession: I've been listening to Christmas music the last week or so. I guess I figure the lead up to Christmas this year will be a sleep deprived haze, so I'm enjoying it while I still can!
