Two weeks ago we walked into our ultrasound appointment. The tech was professional, but a little on the cold side. She got us all situated and started doing her magic, saying nothing at first. As she moved her ultrasound device across my abdomen I looked at the screen and thought 'whoa, that looked like two heads.' But I reassured myself that my inexperienced eyes just didn't know what they were looking at. The tech started explaining what we were seeing, starting with "ok and here you can see the two heads..." and she just kept going...
I stopped her and asked "two heads? As in twins?" She paused for a second (that felt like an eternity) and answered "yes, there are two babies" At this response I looked over at Nathan and just laughed in disbelief. He laughed too, squeezed my hand and said "it's gonna be ok." [he knew about my twin trepidation]. The rest of the ultrasound I think I was just waiting for the tech to say"haha! Gotcha! There is really just one baby!" But clearly that didn't happen.
So how is the woman with twin trepidation doing two weeks post the big news? Surprisingly, EXCITED and, not so surprisingly, NERVOUS. It's a good thing they gave us ultrasound pictures because I've referred to them more than once to remind myself that this is real. Really really real. And really really wonderful with a pinch of intimidation thrown in.
We plan to find out the genders in a few weeks. Our OB is pretty sure they are identical so we'll likely be adding 2 boys or 2 girls to our family. One of us is going to be grossly out numbered...
